Air Purifiers

Air Purification

In a healthcare setting, the original job of cleaning team was to make the room look good.
Rooms being cleaned were expected to be ready for the next patient in 38 min. or less.

Air Purification

Life & Death?
Persons who clean hospital rooms today must be familiar with a variety of bacteria.
Organisms can be resistant to the average disinfectants, forcing the use of bleach, which can not only damage surfaces, but create a harmful environment for personnel.
We know it is crucial to disinfect EVERY hospital room EVERY time.

No-touch disinfection is quickly emerging in hospital cleaning.
3 main technologies are utilized, called no touch cleaning are: Hydrogen peroxide vapor- which applies Hydrogen peroxide in a vapor/mist throughout the room.
The next 2 use different applications of UV light.
As stated earlier, time is of the essence.  For example, Hydrogen peroxide cleaning can take up to 2.5 hours while UV can be anywhere from 15-50 min.

These technologies will be or should be, coming to nursing homes and other markets in the future.

Air Purification

Expectations

To reduce infection rates, and protect patients, a system should/must be put into place without excessive costs or disrupt patient flow.
In a busy facility, a system that is too slow, costly or interrupts "room flow" will not be used effectively and then eventually not used at all.

UV lamps have already shown several in-hospital reduction rates in infections.
For example, Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton, MA.,was able to achieve a 53% reduction in C.diff infections after implementing a UV light program into their rooms.

Air purifiers

Going to provide a bit of general information about air purifiers.

Air purifier selection can be tricky

Air purifiers are NOT all made the same.

Things to look for in a air purifier

Read the box or manual BEFORE you buy.
Most air purifiers sold in the store are PASSIVE air purifiers.
They may only do a small room, like a bedroom, and are most effective when the door is closed.
A Passive air purifier only "purifies"the air that passes through it.

The other type is an ACTIVE air purifier.
These units actual do not just clean the air that passes through it, which it really does not, but activates the air and reduces and or kills airborne pollution, including odors.

These ACTIVE purifiers can do perhaps up to 3,000 square feet, a whole home in general.

Reason for Pollen Count Drop

Weather plays a big part in the count. The drop is due to anticipated precipitation which washes pollen grains out of the air.
